With the largest collection of Mario Testino’s photographs, the Asociación Mario Testino (MATE) is the only cultural institution in the world dedicated to the permanent exhibition of the work of this prominent Peruvian artist.
A non-profit organization of international outreach as well as a new referent of Lima’s artistic landscape, MATE will share its vast collection through exhibitions, programs and publications.
MATE’s building is located on Pedro de Osma Avenue few blocks away from “La Plaza Principal de Barranco” and “El Puente de los Suspiros” in the district of Barranco, renowned for its great cultural tradition and architectural beauty.
This nineteenth century Republican townhouse is a new cultural reference within the district and city landscape. MATE, Asociación Mario Testino is a non-profit cultural organization focused on the work of the photographer Mario Testino.
After 35 years living abroad, it was the personal desire of the artist to bring the largest collection of his work to Lima, his hometown, in contribution to the cultural heritage of Peru.
Todo o Nada by MARIO TESTINO July – December 2012
The exhibition, Todo o Nada, first shown at the prestigious Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid in 2010, brings together 54 photographs that interweave two intrinsically opposed subjects explored throughout the work of Mario Testino: fashion and the nude; combining images created for renowned magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, V Magazine, Allure and The Face and unpublished photographs especially taken for this exhibition.
Todo o Nada represents an arbitrary duality in which not only Todo is dressed and Nada is naked, but also Nada is dressed and Todo, naked.
Todo o Nada is a tribute to “Testino’s woman”, an iconic image of woman that he has defined and redefined over the course of his career, a woman who moves at totally opposing poles: “I like strong, independent women. Women who, despite their strength, never lose their femininity and who do not use their beauty as a tool. Women with personality who can reflect their own desires and ours.”
